Multi-currency account: convenient if you often travel abroad
Do you fly to London, Warsaw, or New York every few weeks? If you change money before each trip, you have to take whatever rate is on offer at the time, even if it does not work in your favour. But you can exchange currency in advance on your phone, whenever the rate suits you, and keep it in your account until you need it.
A multi-currency account is an account where you can hold several currencies under one IBAN, and each has its own balance. This is how a Paysera account works. You can exchange currencies in the Paysera Super App or in online banking.
Below, we explain when separate accounts make sense, how to exchange currency, and how to send money in other currencies.
Why is a multi-currency account convenient when you travel often?
If you travel often, a multi-currency account is useful for several reasons:
- No need to exchange back into euro: you can use leftover foreign currency on your next trip.
- You choose when to exchange: the rate changes in real time, so you can exchange currency when it suits you, not only before your trip.
- You send money in foreign currencies: if you pay for accommodation or services abroad by bank transfer, you can pay straight from your account with currency you have already converted.
A separate account for each currency or one shared account
You can keep all your currencies in one account or give each its own. If you prefer separate accounts, open additional ones free of charge in the same Paysera profile. You cannot choose a currency when you create an account: move the currency you want, such as pounds or zlotys, into it with a transfer between your own accounts. You can rename your accounts to tell them apart more easily. You can read more about having several accounts in one profilein a separate article.
When are separate accounts more convenient?
- You want to keep travel money apart from everyday spending.
- You regularly receive or send money in the same foreign currency.
- You plan several trips and want a separate budget for each.
When is one shared account enough?
If you need a foreign currency only occasionally, one account is enough: you will still see a separate balance for each currency.
How do you exchange currency in the Paysera Super App?
You can exchange dozens of currencies. In the app, it takes four steps:
- Open the Paysera Super App.
- Tap Transfers.
- Select Currency exchange.
- Choose the account and currency to exchange from and to, enter the amount, and confirm.
You can also exchange currency in online banking: log in to bank.paysera.com, select Currency › Currency exchange in the left-hand menu, then choose the account, the amount, and the currency you want to buy or sell. After you confirm, the converted funds appear in your account immediately.
How do you get a better exchange rate?
Exchange rates change in real time, so exchange when the rate suits you.
The rate also depends on the amount you exchange: private clients exchanging up to EUR 500 per month get the best rate offered by Paysera (as of 1 October 2026). Check the rate for your amount in the currency conversion calculator.
Currency balances and transfers in the app
When you open the app, your balance is shown at the top of the main screen. Swipe left on it to see the balances of your other accounts, including those in foreign currencies.
From the app, you can currently send euro, pounds, zlotys, and lei (EUR, GBP, PLN, RON): select Transfers › New Transfer › Bank Transfer, then enter the required details.
For other currencies, make the transfer in Paysera online banking. You can find the currencies Paysera supports for transfers, and their fees, on the transfers in other currencies page. You can exchange the amount you need in advance or choose to have it converted automatically during the transfer. You can find more information on the international transfers page.
How do you start using a multi-currency account?
- Open an account: download the Paysera Super App, register, and confirm your identity.
- Top up your account: for example, by a transfer from another bank.
- Exchange money: in the app, enter the amount and choose the currency.
